"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."

- Jane Austen, "Pride and Prejudice".

Okay, so I'm addicted to Jane Austen, having read all her books, seen all the film adaptations, fantasised about exchanging glances with Mr. Darcy across the drawing room, so I'm sure you're not the least surprised to find me seeking out Austenite places in the land of her birth!

Chawton, Hampshire, was the village where Jane spent most of her adult life in.
Winchester, south of Chawton, was the town where she spent her last days.

Lacock was the setting of "Meryton" in the TV series adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice".
Jane had relatives in Bath and so spent a lot of time here over the years.
Her novels 'Persuasion' and 'Northanger Abbey' were set here.

Unlike other places on the Jane Austen trail this one took some effort getting to.
Although the place is less than an hour by car from Manchester it took me a little longer!
I took a train, a bus, and walked over 10km that day - a huge effort for me), but it was all worth it.
I saw the house where they shot the outside Pemberely scenes, the pond where Mr. Darcy swam, the path Lizzie and Darcy walked down… Oh, it was lovely.
