After a leisurely walk in from Town Hall to Aussie Stadium I was surprised to see a pretty healthy crowd at the ground for a warm-up match. World Cup certainly had a positive effect on attendance figures. I originally bought 3 seats for my aunt (who was to be visiting from Indonesia) and my dad. My aunt loves her sport but unfortunately she cancelled her trip and my friend Melanie went instead. I had good seats, close to the half way line and the players tunnel. Even though we got rained on it was the least of our worries because I got to see lots of Los and got a few good pics as well.
On to the game though. The 'Tahs were pretty ordinary, but the credit must go to the Blues who were on the ball all night. The Blues forwards were pretty solid (despite missing a few lineouts) - they didn't let the Waratahs get anywhere and there certainly were a few big hits going on. The backs too were in excellent form - Doug, Ben Atiga, Rupeni and Mils getting into the action while Joe had some game time in the 2nd half.
Most of this of course was the work of our man Los, who had a bit of a mixed game. His conversion rate was only 50% and there was some dubious defending, but the kicks from general play (including a few banana kicks), passes (behind-the-back and a no-look pass thrown almost right in front of me) and some brilliant runs made up for it. Again, he ran the back line with consumate style and ease, resulting to four tries to one for the team. Carlos came off 7 minutes from full time but by then his work was done: 24-5!
Photos to come.
